Was a great team member, Did the right thing, Worked Safely and Enjoys Serving Customers (Operations)

Description of what this person did, and how it shows our values:

Applying the “see something, say/do something” mind set he organized an information session with operational leaders to discuss his teams involvement in this process in the future. David presented his thoughts on his team supporting this work during tank turnaround season. The focus and reason for making his suggestion was driven around safety, care and commitment to serve MI Ops. These tank turnaround activities are high risk tasks and are undertaken once per year which can impact the confidence and competency to complete this work by MI operations personnel. The overall goal is to remove MI Ops out of harms way and allow them to focus on their daily tasks. THANK YOU David for being an awesome teammate!!! Appreciate it.

Fumina,
Thank you for taking the time to help me figure out our A/R discrepancies with our Crude Oil Marketing aging. We had 4 payments that were not reconciled against invoices on their respective accounts. With your guidance, we discovered that the coding was incorrect on the A/R upload and that is why they did not get posted to their accounts. Also, you helped me discover a credit note error on another account, as the customers account number was incorrect on the A/R Upload. Lastly, thank you for you patience and knowledge on where we needed to look to figure out these issues. Your experience and skillsets are recognized and valued. Thank you!

Marc Magee

What best describes the values shown by this person:
Did the right thing

Description of what this person did, and how it shows our values:
email recieved this morning from Adam McDonald:

Good morning everyone, this morning on the way out to site, Marc Magee came across a mini van in the ditch along HI Way 9 at about 6:30am. He noticed the van was badly dented, windshield all smashed and hazard lights flashing. Marc pulled over and stopped to find a young man walking around very cold and in shock. Upon looking farther, he noticed a second young man in the minivan. It turns out two 16year old boys left Saskatoon at 3:30am this morning heading to a hockey training camp. The young boy driving fell asleep at the wheel, went into the ditch, and rolled the van. Both boys were very shaken up and cold. Lucky no major injuries were detected at this time. Marc got both into his truck to warm up right away. He them got them to the Cactus Corner truck stop where they were able to make the appropriate phones calls to authorities and the respected families. This is a perfect example of the great men and women we have working in this company that look out for everyone whether that be a coworker at work on site or a stranger in the in the community. I felt Marc deserved some recognition for his efforts this morning.

The lack of rain and dry conditions, made for ideal conditions for A wildfire. April 30, 2021, a wildfire started approximately 17 km northwest of the pembina landfill. The wind was very strong gusting to 50 km/h out of the northwest, potentially putting the pembina landfill at risk if the fire spread quickly. Could cause financial loss and damage to secure property.

Before leaving the site for the end of the day Mark shut down all leachate systems/ closed tank valves. The equipment was moved into the middle of the cell to protect it in case of the fire spread. Mark notified Darcy Hoiland/ Matt Taylor of the situation.

Mark showed great proactive efforts in the situation.

Incredibly Hard Working

Nominee:
Tricia Stevenson

What best describes the values shown by this person:
Was a Great Team Member,

Description of what this person did, and how it shows our values:
Tricia looks after the vast majority of the entire MI field and corporate sales team’s admin needs as well as a lot of the day to day running of the GP office, all while working part time. On top of this lately Tricia has lately been pulled into many other time consuming initiatives around the merger often times bringing her laptop home to work late at night and on the weekends (which she very often does for the sales team as well). Last week for the executive facility tours Tricia was also somehow able to find time to clean and prepare 3 trucks, organize and deliver them to the airport, organize the office and boardroom, order meals, collect and input tour data etc. , etc.

I’m truly not sure how Tricia does as much as does, I think she has superpowers or is a robot. But seriously, Thank you Tricia!!

Description of what this person did, and how it shows our values:
Scale administrator Shelly Penner made an observation about some waste coming in, that she couldn’t tell if it was gel chem or invert on the camera, but the driver said that it was still gel chem & had the gel chem SCA approval number on his tickets. She said that it was strange that they would still be on gel chem, & operator mentioned that the 2 loads he had dumped previously within 12 hours looked like invert. Shelly called the consultant on site & he confirmed that they had switched to invert 2 loads ago, but he had neglected to change the number on the board during shift change, & that’s what caused the confusion. Operator stopped driver before dumping this 3rd load with the other 2 loads & grabbed a sample which passed. Shelly changed the paperwork & reissued it to the driver. She then made the changes in AX to reflect the loads of invert. This was a great catch by Shelly & prevented a non-compliance from occurring.

Was a Great Team Member,

Description of what this person did, and how it shows our values:
We were awarded a new job, but we required a piece of equipment to be modified to go ahead with the new job. While on a holiday James came up with a plan on how we were going to get this piece of equipment to work for us. He came up with a plan, reviewed the plan with other personnel, ordered all the items required, then oversaw everything come together in a safe and timely fashion (albeit) a crunched time frame in order to get the modification done so we could be operational as soon as we could.

He also worked extra hours over the weekend outside (in the middle of a 20cm day snow storm) because of the time crunch, the short time frame provided and timing of availability of items required to complete modifications. The equipment was ready as set by the deadline that was agreed to all without complaints or issues arising requiring more time then what was allotted. He rolled with the project and was very good about communicating what was going on in an effort to make sure the equipment was going to work in the fashion that was going to be required. At the same time completing a bunch of his other regular work to make sure that the other items and work remaining on track.

Thanks to his suggestions we can now look at the work that was done, improve our signage on site, and perhaps avoid a future incident. Thanks for looking out for your piers to keep them safe & for having the courage to speak up – great job!

As I am a new manager to the PEMLF landfill I was reviewing items that needed to be addressed 1 major being the leachate pump system in cell 7. This system has gone through countless pumps totalling around $12,000 with no fixes as to why the issue still occurs. Mark Holman and myself talked and had Morgan see if there was anything missed in the past to cause issues here. After a lot of digging and perseverance Morgan found a “witches hat” in line in the system which is very rare and found it to be plugged solid. After a thorough clean the system is running as it should saving the company thousands of dollars. excellent work on his behalf.

Down here in the States we do, we have a number of them actually but the one I am recognizing today is in our AP staff, Thelecia Tomlinon. Thelecia juggles a LOT of tasks every – single – day. And the crazy part is she gets it done for us every – single – day. You won’t sneak anything past her either! But for good reason – she handles our money & our vendors and there is no grey area with either. Thelecia takes a lot of pride in what she does, her attention to detail is evident, and she holds herself just as accountable. Countless times I have seen her green light on saying she is on her computer late at night meeting a deadline or fulfilling a promise. Thelecia we sure appreciate ALL that you do. Pandemic or Oil price war – its folks like Thelecia that will get us through- thank you.

Krik sent a very nice response (below) with words of high praise for Dennis and the team at Secure.

Wow, Dennis, I am impressed! (and, I don’t get impressed very easily anymore with follow-up responses from generators!) I’ll ALWAYS take closures of rejection reports received at the same time as we receive the initial rejection reports from Gretchen. Description of what this person did, and how it shows our values:
Stuart has been a key member of the team helping us on two fronts in the past 6 months.

Stuart’s painstaking attention to detail when analyzing customer data and preparing the reports that accompany this research has been beyond the call of duty.

Stuart then takes the time and care to ensure that I understand fully what we are presenting, allowing me to offer more future value to our customers.

In addition to these roles of researcher and teacher, the then is the face of the SECURE lab team when we present to customers. When Stuart presents, he ensures that all information is accessible to everyone in the room, regardless of their previous understanding of the subject matter.

We have had some difficult and at times seemingly unreasonable requests, but Stuart is able to handle them all in stride; as a result of this history and credibility built with customers, we are able to decline some requests, and the justification Stuart provides is taken very well, as they trust his recommendations.

Stuart is an invaluable part of this team, and contributes to our reputation as a company that will apply as much science and testing to the solutions we offer.

The feedback I get from my clients regarding Stuart’s contributions is incredible.

While re-sloping the south side of the landfill at Tullaby Lake the contract dozer operator encountered a significant concentration of H2S. The source of the H2S was from organics decaying in the landfill.

Brad immediately suspended that operation and came up with a plan to work safely. They secured a big bottle of air onto the dozer then outfitted the operator with a SABA. The dozer operator was able to push the sour product to an area and re-bury it.

The operation was completed without putting anyone at risk. Nice work Brad!!

Safety Meeting Visits

Nominee:
Dennis Niven

What best describes the values shown by this person:
Treated Others the Way They Want to be Treated,Did the Right Thing,

Description of what this person did, and how it shows our values:
Dennis went out of his way to invite myself and Derek Gould (lead operator at Gold Creek) to accompany him to his safety meetings at Gordondale and Spirit River. This was a refreshing change from the everyday and a good eye-opener as the how facilities in another area conduct their safety meetings. Any little aspect that can be taken away to make our meetings more engaging and productive could only help make our company as a whole be safer.

It was also very nice to be able to tour facilities that we only hear about and meet fellow operators/managers that we would otherwise only talk to over the phone. Dennis made it a point to introduce us to everyone, which made us feel as though we were right at home and comfortable enough to speak up and express our opinions, even though we were outsiders from the group.

Can’t say enough about how much little things like this go such a long way in making employees feel involved and important within Secure Energy. I found this to be a great training/learning exercise that more operators and leaders should be involved in.

Thanks Dennis for thinking outside the box and stepping up to invite us along. Appreciate it!

Further, a rig was experiencing some tight time restraints on Wednesday for paperwork so she gave her personal cell number to the consultants and stressed in an email that as soon as they were done hauling, that she would invoice them within the hour – whenever that might be.

Carol has shown incredible dedication and commitment to customers and worked with them to get the job done. Thanks to her, my visits to rigs are unanimously met with the comment “I haven’t had Any problems, you guys have been great!”

Description of what this person did, and how it shows our values:
Working with Lori on some significant change orders for two Capital projects that we’re just concluding. Value of these CO’s were significant and the meeting to discuss with them with the contractor had the potential to be quite contentious. Lori was well mannered, empathetic and professional. She had clearly taken a good amount of time to really review the detail in each of the change orders to be properly prepared to effectively challenge the contractor on their own challenges. I’ve been involved in change order discussions before, not on this scale or $ value. It was a great learning opportunity for me to see the right way to do it, treat our contractors firm but fair, and ultimately ensure the SECURE’s interests were maintained throughout as well as a strong level of respect and courtesy. Impressive to see.

Description of what this person did, and how it shows our values:
In 2018 Tulliby Lake FST was audited by the AER in the Petrinex Reporting system. This audit revealed that a portion of the material being accepted at the FST was not being coded correctly and resulted in a non-compliance letter. Following this letter the Tulliby lake staff was given a presentation on coding by Calgary Regulatory and Compliance Specialists Kenneth Lubon and Justin Clements.

Since the presentation, Tulliby Lake has reduced its number of waste coding errors tremendously. The improvement has come such a long way that during the last AER audit (2019) the inspectors stated that TULSO’s Petrinex records were some of the best they had seen during their recent audits of SECURE’s facilities. Rebecca’s diligence and commitment to improvement have contributed to this and it is greatly appreciated and valued.

Thank you for doing such a great job Rebecca!!
