Did the right thing

Nominee: Grant Gallie

What best describes the values shown by this person: Did the right thing, Worked Safely

Description of what this person did, and how it shows our values: : The other day a load of 30% sour “produced water” showed up at our Buck Creek FST. In talking with the driver, it was determined that the water was from a tank on a well work over, so Grant decided to mask up and take a sample. In doing so he found that the material had 6% solids and would be troublesome for our infrastructure if it was fully off-loaded on the water riser and instead needed to be off-loaded as waste on the solids pad. Grant then held the truck from offloading, contacted me, told me the situation and provided me with the appropriate contact information for the consultant. It was discussed with the consultant that his material was misclassified and in order for us to accept it we would require a manifest with the correct classification and more importantly because it needed to be off-loaded on the solids pad, have this load be fully sweetened to eliminate the threat of sour gas being released to atmosphere and potentially causing harm to our employees. In the end, the customer decided to utilize one of our competitors, but this is a small price to pay as Grant did the right thing and worked safely. He wanted to help the customer but not at the cost of damaging facility infrastructure and putting people at risk.

My Lead Hand is my role model

Nominee: Sheldon Ganie

What best describes the values shown by this person: Compassionate, caring, encouraging, role model

Description of what this person did, and how it shows our values: : To whom it may concern,
I would like to nominate Mr. Sheldon Ganie for something so much more than just a shout out in 1000 little things. I hope my words can describe to each and everyone of you who read this, what a terrific human being he is and how big of an impact he has made in my life.

Mr. Ganie throughout my first year with Secure has been hands down the best role model I could ask for as a young man and operator. He plays a very busy and important role on my site as well as several others he tends to. Mr. Ganie always has the RIGHT answer when called upon no matter the time of day or night, on shift or off shift. His professionalism is something I strive for someday, I am thankful to have him be part of my leadership team. This man bleeds blue ( not on site )

Despite the importance he carries on site, I am not nominating Sheldon for that.

Without being to open about our conversations or making this to long, Mr. Ganie has shown me compassion and support in my personal life to which I am beyond thankful for. Be it concerns about my work, advise on home life, raising children or just being the ear I need, when life has me in the lowest of spots. Although this is not his job and not required of him, Sheldon has dropped everything to talk me through tough times and get my head back where it needs to be. He has seen me at my lowest and picked my chin back up to look at the bright side of things with just a talk. I hope to be half as good of man as he is someday

Mr. Ganie is a true gentleman with a passion for his job and the people he works with. An amazing example of what Secure employees can be. For that, thank you.

Description of what this person did, and how it shows our values: : Dan Schwarz and Myself would like to recognize Stephanie for all her work in getting Vermilion their SRP invoicing completed very quickly.

Background from Dan:

Scott Churchill (Vermilion) reached out on Wednesday, December 14th. He was stressed due to several outstanding invoices from Secure for various abandonment sites through the SK Accelerated Site Closure Program. The Government of Saskatchewan has a deadline to have all vendor invoices submitted by December 20th, with the holidayโ€™s fast approaching Scott was feeling the pressure with this shorter timeline. To add to this challenge, there were invoices from our Alida and Halbrite facilities which were recently divested. Invoices not submitted by this timeline were at risk of non-payment.

Lyne and Stephanie put in extra effort to review and help get Vermilion caught up on invoices for ASCP. This showed their dedication to Secureโ€™s values (Help the Customer, Be Accountable, Perform our Best) and they displayed excellent communication through this entire process. This really helps Secure mend some fences and build on our existing relationship with Vermilion Energy!

All outstanding invoices were delivered back to Scott on time, he was very appreciative of their collective efforts.

On behalf of myself, and Dan we would like to sincerely thank Stephanie for her efforts in getting this request completed for the customer. Well Done!

Stewart has been an amazing support to help keep our things organized and has helped many times when in a pinch to get the items to us. Description of what this person did, and how it shows our values: Kevin often is a supportive team member and I find his approach to include care for all those who work with him.

We have a project that includes daily use of beacon lights on the trucks when on mine site property.
When off property these beacons if left on while on public roadways can be pulled over and issued a ticket for contravening a local highway act.
I left site after work and was headed to the local grocery store when Kevin saw my unit he reminded me that I had left my beacon light on this particular day.
He held me accountable and I was thankful for that, with my role and experience I do my daily best to help, coach and encourage others.
Although slightly embarrassed I was for leaving it on, it was good to know my co worker had my best interests in mind.
I definitely appreciated Kevin for his efforts on this day.

What best describes the values shown by this person: Helping others..sharing the workload!

Description of what this person did, and how it shows our values: : I’m the OP2560 HSE Advisor, Paul is one of our operators.
Mid afternoon on Oct 13th, Paul was operating near by the storage area that I was at.
I was there to get a load of winter work wear which had just arrived on a pallet and because it was attached to other items on the same pallet I was opening the pallet to retrieve the numerous boxes I needed.
Paul was working near by and saw me starting to carry out boxes to load them by hand in to a pick up so that I could move them to the area I needed them to be at for later that same day.
Without asking, Paul stopped & safely shutdown his equipment and just simply without warning started to help me load up the boxes and tear down the rest of the pallet.
He often is helpful on a daily basis, but what I liked about yesterday was there was no asking, simply doing and pitching in and sharing the work load without hesitation.
I was not struggling but it was just a friendly reminder of a welcomed act of random kindness that really just made my day!
Thank you Paul,
I appreciated your efforts and your willingness to help another coworker.

Standards the same, no matter how big or small the job

Nominee: Justin Farquharson

What best describes the values shown by this person: Was a great team member, Worked Safely

Description of what this person did, and how it shows our values: We are doing a confined space entry job on the hopper on our receiving pad at LAFST to do some repairs. Justin Farquharson and team completed all documents and ensured everyone’s tickets were valid and assigned roles based on experience and ticket status. Before the work began, Justin called everyone to the control room and held a safety meeting to ensure everyone was aware of the work being completed and went over ERP procedures (rescue methods and how they would work), communication methods and what steps were to be taken if something went wrong in great detail., He also went over the permits themselves and made sure that everyone understood their role and what was expected of them. Justin then ensured that everyone who participated in the meeting signed off on the paperwork and gave everyone the opportunity to ask questions if they were unsure. The key message in the safety meeting from Justin was to take your time, there was no rush to do the job and that everyone completed it safely. Great job Justin. This is critical in ensuring our safety culture is being lived and not just preached. The task may be one small job in the world of confined space and entries but it was treated no different than a job that would take days to complete with multiple contractors. Upholding our standards so that they are the same every time with no deviation is how we make sure everyone goes home safe.

Mistake Turned Learning Opportunity

Nominee: Shannon Krider

What best describes the values shown by this person: Held themselves Accountable

Description of what this person did, and how it shows our values: I would like to nominate Shannon Krider of Bonnyville (MI). During the first few months of 2022 and up until currently Mrs. Krider has been mentoring Aaron and myself as “New to Secure employees”. Throughout the last several months we have learned how to deal with waste placement and the importance of how to deal with the material we intake on site.

A couple months ago we proceeded on a couple very wet days to process material as usual, being new I did not recognize the change in material coming in as “it was raining” and we were having problems with water diversion on site at the time. After having problems pushing material following
our waste placement plan I referred to my operator (Mrs. Krider) as what would be the best practice going forward. We contacted management/leads to make plan going forward to reduce the future cost to repair. We changed push plan until further notice and review.

I would like to commend the utmost professionalism to Mrs Krider not only for dealing with the repercussions of the event mentioned above but also for understanding that “taking it out on me” or “making it all my fault”. Even though I was the operator at the time she did not place any blame on me. Instead she focused on working closer with me to better understand material screening and placement when working in the Landfill. As a result our on site communication has become much better between all operators and management. Not only to be more direct and clear verbally but also being detailed with cross shift and ensuring everyone is on the same page at all times (not just the safety meeting).

I would also like to add; The above and beyond Shannon goes to make sure customers have a good experience and get what they need to be as efficient as possible on site. It could be as simple as a friendly greeting, the office being spotless and smelling clean(a seemingly impossible task), a hot coffee/cold water or a clean restroom to use instead of the side of the road. It could also be 4 hours of shoveling mud in -40 to help get a truck unstuck from a place they should’ve never drove or coming to the rescue when the Dozer is stuck.

All in all, Mrs. Krider is a great example of what we look for in our employees and I couldn’t ask for a better person to spend my work week with.

In preparation to commence the cutting of the trees, with our chain saws, Kevin noticed I was not wearing my earing protection (proper PPE) and called me out on it to remind me of the importance of it. Nominee: Midstream AP Department (Roma Jani, Tracy Pelland, Tosin Adegboyega, Pamela Flores, Fely Lock)

What best describes the values shown by this person: Treated Others the Way They Want to be Treated, Was a Great Team Member, Enjoyed Serving Customers

Description of what this person did, and how it shows our values: A water injection pipeline project was planned, executed and completed using a 3rd party EPC, which is unconventional to Secureโ€™s standard project management practices. Consequently this caused us to deviate from our standard AP process as well.

All invoices needed to be verified by the EPC before being processed in OI for final approval and payment. Rather than the vendors uploading their invoices directly to OI, our AP Team manually uploaded all invoices to ensure the required verification by the EPC and final invoice approval by Secure could occur. This was a big lift that took some coordination, and I wanted to express my appreciation to the entire team!

Thank you all!

Reserved for El Toro

Nominee: Dennis Torres

What best describes the values shown by this person: Treated others the way they want to be treated. Great Team Member, Made a positive impact in our community.

Description of what this person did, and how it shows our values: Dennis has been with secure for around 8-9 years, I would guess. I have had the privilege of working beside him at the Stanley, ND disposal for the past 5 years as an Operator, and as the current sales representative. That being said, in those 5 years I have never heard Dennis complain about his job. He has had his tough days at work and outside of work, with the loss of close family members this past year. Regardless, Dennis always shows up ready for the next days adventure with a positive mindset. He strives on working closely with his teammates, whether that is good conversation, or suiting up to work along side them on busy days. He makes it his mission to ensure everyone is on the same page and that his crews work safely to go home to their families at the end of the day. Dennis is also the type of guy who welcomes you with open arms and makes you feel like part of the family, not only to his crew but also to our customers. I know his teammates across the board think highly of him and respect him for being a great mentor. On behalf of myself and his crew members, we want to thank him for all his hard work, his positive attitude, and his strong values as a person in general.

As far as the headline: (Reserved for El Toro) Someone had a sign made that is located outside of his office building with that phrase. We feel Dennis has earned the title ‘The Bull.”

Holiday Season Call to Action

Nominee: David Nyland

What best describes the values shown by this person: Worked Safely, Was a Great Team Member, Did the Right Thing, Enjoyed Serving Customers

Description of what this person did, and how it shows our values: Through the end of November and into December it was clear we needed to perform some pump preventative maintenance at BMSWD. On Dec 20th, as we were solidifying the plan, a pump failed forcing us to execute on the preventative maintenance right away in order to save the other 2 pumps.

Dave took charge from the field level, organized crews and put in long hours to ensure the procedure was supervised, executed successfully and safely. His ability and willingness to act quickly likely saved BMSWD from seeing extended downtime. Dave demonstrated his pride and “do what it takes” mentality during a time of year that is less than ideal to be executing on critical maintenance.

Thanks Dave!

What best describes the values shown by this person: Was a Great Team Member

Description of what this person did, and how it shows our values: On November 10/21 Kerry Mowbray, Shoki Kanji and Greg Filipchuk visited the Elk Point FST where on October 23/21 SECURE experienced a fire incident at this facility. I (Greg Filipchuk) had see lots of pictures and aerial photographs of the facility based on the impacts of the fire but on November 10/21 was the first time I actually put eyes on the facility and specifically the tank farm where the fire originated from. The impacts of seeing this first hand was overwhelming for me, I was lost for words and struggled to put my thoughts/emotions into words that day. After leaving the facility and safety travelling back to Calgary Ken reached out to me. It was via text to see how I was doing and stated the notion of sometimes we forget senior leaders are people too and can be impacted by these events as well. He was checking in on me to ensure I was okay from what was observed/seen that day. This act demonstrates Ken’s ability to observe, support and recognize all types of people/employees at SECURE. This was awesome! Thanks Ken for being an awesome teammate. Appreciate it. /GF
